Can I have my gas struts re-gassed?

Accepted Answer

Technically, yes. But if your strut is older than five years, leaking oil, has rust spots or looking like it’s seen better days, we highly recommend biting the bullet and getting new ones. Think of it like putting a band-aid on a broken leg—eventually, you just need a new strut for optimal performance and safety.

Note: Our equipment only plays nice with our own brand of struts. We do not offer a warranty on re-gassed units.

What is the typical life-span of a gas strut (under normal use conditions)?

Accepted Answer

If you invest in quality—like our South Korean-made struts, or those manufactured in the USA, UK, and Germany—expect a solid 8 to 10 years of smooth lifting under normal conditions. If you buy cheap knock-offs from certain other places ... well, may the odds be ever in your favor.

Are your struts as good as genuine vehicle struts?

Accepted Answer

Here’s a little industry secret: Ford, Toyota, and Kia don't actually manufacture gas struts. They buy them from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM)—just like we do. In fact, many major car brands get their struts from the exact same factory supplier we use. So, are they as good? They're practically identical, just without the inflated dealership markup.

What maintenance should I preform on my gas strut?

Accepted Answer

If you bought them from Strut Technology Cairns, your maintenance schedule is mostly "sit back and relax." Our struts feature a tough, nitro-carbonised black shaft (a massive step up from the cheap, flaky chrome ones on the market) and are largely maintenance-free. However, if your struts live out in the wild—like on an off-road camper, boat, or trailer—giving them a regular spray with Inox MX3 or INOX Lanox will keep them a bit more protected.

My gas struts won't retract anymore, are they seized?

Accepted Answer

We get asked this all the time. Usually, your strut isn't seized; the physics of your setup have just changed! If you've recently removed a heavy mattress, taken off a solar panel, or ditched your recovery tracks, the weight the strut was originally pressurized to hold has dropped. 
Lighter load + same high pressure = a strut that refuses to budge. If your setup has gone on a diet (or gained a few kilos), let us know. We can calculate the exact pressure you need for your new weight class.

How do I know which strut I need for my specific project?
