GAS STRUTS

Looking around you'll see the use of struts in many differing applications. The most typical are the struts that support your car's hatchback, boot, tailgate, and bonnet. The majority of recreational vehicles and maritime vessels also use gas struts. Additionally, you'll find struts used around the house like servery windows, toy boxes  and bar stools.

In the office environment struts are used extensively for the complete range of office chairs.

Struts can be dangerous when they malfunction because they can't execute the function for which they were intended. You could understand how inconvenient it would be, for instance, if the strut supporting your car's tailgate kept collapsing on you as you were loading groceries or accessing the engine hatch of a boat. Likewise we've all experienced the office chair that keeps dropping down while you're busy typing a letter or discussing important business strategies on the phone.

Thanks to Strut Technology Cairns, we can replace your worn-out struts with brand-new, South Korean-made struts designed and manufactured to the highest specification and suitable for all applications.

Drop by or call anytime during our opening hours and our friendly staff will determine which gas strut you need.

With this information we can determine which struts you will need for the job and give advice on where to mount those struts.

  • Can I have my gas struts re-gassed?
Technically yes but if your gas strut is older than 8 years, leaking oil or looking worse for wear we would highly recommend new struts. Purchasing new gas struts ensures optimal performance and reliability. NOTE: Our machine can only regas our brand of gas struts. No warranty on regassed struts.
  • What maintenance should I preform on my gas strut?
If you have purchased a gas strut from us, you have purchased quality and that is a great start. Strut Technology struts have a nitro carbonised black shaft (cheap and nasty gas struts have chrome shafts). Most quality gas struts like ours are maintenance free but if your strut is to be exposed to the elements like on a camper or trailer we recommend applying Inox MX3 or INOX Lanox regularly.
  • What is the typical life-span of a gas strut (under normal use conditions)?
8 - 10 years for Gas Struts made in South Korea (like ours), USA, UK and Germany. Struts made in some of the other countries … GOOD LUCK. We have some customers coming to us with struts that have been doing the job for over 15 years. All our struts have a 2-year manufacture warranty.
  • How do I know which strut I need for my car/application?
Leave that us – give us a call or drop in to see us. 99.5% of the time we will have the strut you need ready to go. We stock here in Cairns gas struts from 128mm upto 1200mm long and everything in between. At any time we have over 2000 struts in our storeroom.
  • My gas struts won't retract anymore, are they seized?
This is one of the most common questions we are asked. After a bit of investigation, we commonly find that a mattress, solar panel, max tracks have been removed or changed – this will mean the weight the struts were pressured for has now altered. If your weight has changed for any reason we can help you work out the new struts now needed to do the job.
  • Are your struts as good as genuine vehicle struts?
Ford, Toyota, Kia etc do not make gas struts, they purchase the gas struts for their bonnets and hatch struts from OEM gas strut manufacturers just like us. A lot of the vehicle brands get their gas struts from the exact same supplier we do
